Learning a new language is as easy as un, deux, trois with Lingotots!

Lingotots are proud to teach their languages classes to thousands of children each and every week in the community, schools and nurseries. Classes feel informal and fun even though they are based on sound educational research, learning is done through songs, stories, games, drama and play. The children enjoy them so much, they don't realise they are learning. Adults are taught too whilst attending at the same time as the children, and you don't have to have any prior knowledge of a language to join in!

We spoke to Darlington Lingotot Leader Lucy Cass and asked her why she feels her classes offer the right balance in learning a new language whilst having an amazing time too!

Can you tell us about your exciting classes and what they are all about?

We can offer 8 modern foreign languages from birth to age 11 and can deliver in Darlington, Richmond, Northallerton and Barnard Castle. Our sessions are fun and interactive and offer something for all different age groups. We are currently the only language provider that offers an accredited course for KS2 children, meaning they leave primary with a certificate in language learning. We work with schools to offer lunch/after school clubs including our Lingotots drama course and can offer one off sessions for special occasions ie World Book day and we can also run theme days.

What is the most fun you can have at Lingotots?

The children learn and make progress without realising it and there is no pressure, they join in when they're ready. Our sessions are jam packed with songs, games, stories, role-play, drama and craft activities and we have loads of lovely resources too.

What are the benefits of children and adults learning a new language?

Learning together at one of our community classes provides an opportunity for both to learn new skills and spend quality time together. Research suggests children who know two languages can gain an academic and social advantage over those who speak only one. They have an amazing ability to learn language and this happens best when it's interactive, engaging and child-centred. For adults there are health benefits! Learning a new language can improve people's thinking skills and memory abilities.

Is there anything coming up in the future that families can get involved in?

We offer our weekly community classes and also currently have online sessions. Look out for sessions offered through local nurseries and schools too. If we aren't in your setting already, feel free to mention us! This Autumn we now have a new Lingotot Forest school course where children learn a new language in the natural environment. In the New Year we are hoping to offer these in the community too.
