TWO fantastic new additions to Lingotot

We are proud to announce the addition of not just one, but TWO fantastic new languages to our multi-award winning children’s language programme.

Until recently, the Lingotot curriculum was available in six languages including French, Spanish, German, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin) and ESL (English as a second language). However, this year we have been able to add to our offering by introducing Welsh and Italian too!

Angela Sterling, Founder and Managing Director of Lingotot, said: “It’s been a great year for Lingotot and we’re delighted to be able to expand our programme to include these two popular languages. We have some passionate and talented ladies in our network who are fantastic ambassadors for their languages and we’re excited to support more children and their families in learning a new language!”

Gemma Bell, an Environmental Consultant from Aberystwyth, launched the Welsh element of our programme earlier this year and said: “I am originally from South East England and until I left home for Aberystwyth University, I hadn’t come across the Welsh language. I don’t think I even knew it existed! Fast forward three years and I was so in love with Wales - its people, its culture, its history and its language - it’s a living, breathing part of the place I live in. I love the mutations, the accents and dialects, how completely different the written form is to the spoken and of course, the umpteen ways of saying yes and no!”

Gemma put down roots in Aberystwyth and learnt the language thoroughly. She continues: “Children are amazing and their developing minds are wired to mimic new sounds and soak up language so when my son was born, I wanted to take advantage of this critical window and expose him to new languages. Unfortunately there was nothing in my local area. I saw Lingotot on Dragon’s Den and was keen to learn more. I have been really impressed by the quality of their curriculum and am excited to be able to support the Welsh programme and launch it into West Wales - Mae'n gyffrous!”

Within a few months of the Welsh course being launched, we were delighted to welcome a second Welsh speaker to the Lingotot family by way of Catrin at Lingotot Carmarthenshire and were able to extend our Welsh programme even further. We also launched our second language of the year - Italian!

Julie McDonald, a business woman, says: “I began learning Italian at university after studying French and German and I quickly fell in love with the language, culture and country! I moved to Europe to work within the travel industry and was privileged to be able to spend a decade soaking up new languages in some truly beautiful parts of the world.”

Julie returned to the UK but admits that she missed using her languages. She continues: “I love being back home but I was in Europe for over 10 years, using my languages every day and I admit that I was really missing it. I decided I would teach my children and did research online about child language acquisition - that’s how I discovered Lingotot! The more I read about them, the more I felt like we were a perfect match and now, I can’t quite believe I get to share my love of languages with the people in my local community - it’s amazing!”

Angela continues: “The addition of Welsh and Italian to the Lingotot programme means that we are able to support even more children and their families in learning a new language and encouraging a life long love of travel and language - and that, is a wonderful feeling!”
