The children’s language franchise Lingotot teaches fun and interactive classes to kids aged 0-12 across the UK and Ireland. Local entrepreneur Charlotte Dyas is the newest member of the network. Charlotte recently founded Lingotot Bridgnorth after seeing an opportunity to bring language learning to children in the local area. We’ve been getting to know more about Charlotte, her background and her business.

Hi Charlotte! Let’s jump straight in with a business question, what languages will you be bringing to children in Bridgnorth?

Lingotot Bridgnorth will be bringing Spanish and French sessions to kids in our local area. Classes will be coming soon so keep an eye out!

Tell us a little more about yourself

I live in Bridgnorth with my husband Jeremy and our two young daughters, Lydia and Evie. I am a fully qualified primary and Modern Foreign Languages teacher with many years experience teaching all subjects across the primary curriculum. I am Irish and grew up and studied Spanish and French in Dublin before moving to Madrid. It was there, whilst working for a law firm, that I realised that I really wanted to teach so I decided to complete my PGCE with MFL in Canterbury, Kent. Following seven years in London teaching all subjects at primary level, I met my husband and moved to Shropshire. I continued to work in schools here too and was lucky to be given the opportunity to spend more and more time teaching French, Spanish and even some Latin. When our twins were born, I took some time off teaching and enjoyed attending some wonderful local baby and toddler groups. When I discovered Lingotot and realised that the closest classes were not within easy reach of my house, I knew that I had to join up and make language classes an option for families in the area.

Why did you decide to found your own Lingotot business?

I wanted to make language classes available to parents and children in my area. I love sharing my passion for languages with others. And I get huge satisfaction from witnessing children pick up a new words and phrases whilst having fun, singing, playing, crafting and meeting new friends. Lingotot is an excellent way for parents and children to make connections in their local area whilst learning something new.

What are you most excited about?

I am most excited about meeting all the children and families locally who are keen to learn a new language or keep their language skills going. I love hearing about what motivates people to want to learn languages. From holidays in the sun to wanting to increase their children’s future employability and literacy skills, it intrigues me to learn about others and gives me immense satisfaction if I am able to help them achieve their goals.
