The Express Yourself North East Festival of Languages takes place in March each year as a celebration of the diversity of culture, language and communities across the North East. People of all backgrounds and ages are encouraged to take part to educate and celebrate their individual cultures. As part of these celebrations, there are lots of fantastic free events that promote language learning. This year Lingotot took part and provided two “Express Yourself” French and Spanish lessons for children aged 3-11 in schools and at home across the North East.
Lingotot’s two 45 minute live sessions used interactive games, songs, stories, drama and play to introduce and inspire a love of language learning in the children who took part. They looked at how to express themselves in French and Spanish, and encouraged everyone to take part in the fun.
The Lingotot method of learning has been tried and tested and carefully perfected by Angela Sterling, Lingotot’s founder and CEO. From her experience and research, she found a method of teaching that makes language learning entertaining as well as educational for children. It was with this experience and expertise that Lingotot (Lisa Armes from Lingotot East Durham and Angela) ran their two sessions for the North East festival.
Brian Stobie, of the Durham Country Council, said ‘the festival was so lucky to be supported by wonderful partners who share our ambition of making language learning meaningful. Colleagues at Lingotot engaged our pupils from the very outset and kept their attention throughout. The superbly delivered sessions helped pupils explore different languages in an age appropriate and captivating fashion. Some didn't want the lesson to ever end. Thank you Angela and team for a magnificent contribution to our new festival programme.’
