Wanting to make a difference in the community, Sarah Canavan, owner of Lingotot Bexley, has been shortlisted in the Local Focus category at the bfa HSBC British Franchise Awards, taking place at the Vox, Birmingham, on November 30.

Formerly a client service account manager, Sarah wanted to put her language skills in German, French and Spanish to good use and help children learn languages, so acquiring a Lingotot franchise was ideal for her.

Sarah said:
“I provide language teaching to children aged 0-11 in schools, nurseries, childminders, parent-child classes and more recently in the community running intergenerational classes. I am delighted to be a finalist in the 2020 bfa Awards for the Local Focus category.  I am very passionate about my local community and it is an honour to be recognised by the bfa.  I feel proud to be representing the Lingotot brand at the awards and look forward to the next stage. I feel very lucky as Lingotot have become bfa accredited since I bought the franchise, so it’s a bonus that we have since gained the accreditation.  It is fabulous to have such a recognised body supporting us.”

Angela Sterling, Lingotot Founder and CEO added:
“I am tremendously proud of Sarah. She is a true local champion and deserves this formal recognition of her hard work and dedication by the premier franchise association in the UK. The whole network is rooting for her in the finals!”

Pip Wilkins QFP, CEO of the bfa, said:

“Sarah’s commitment to her community has resulted in local awards, and the fact she still teaches 50 per cent of the classes is testament to her devotion to provide children with the opportunity to learn other languages. Lingotot Generations, bringing children and the elderly together, has been a fantastic initiative.”

Andrew Brattesani, Head of Franchising at HSBC, added:

“Lingotot Generations is what a local community focus is all about. For the wider network to be rolling this out shows that Sarah is trailblazing innovation in the network. Her work in Bexley is essential to the fabric of the local community.”

Sarah will go head-to-head against two other franchisees in November.
