The children’s language franchise Lingotot teaches fun and interactive classes to children aged 0-12 across the UK and Ireland. Local entrepreneur Julie Scotting is the newest member of the network. Julie recently founded Lingotot South Devon after seeing an opportunity to bring language learning to younger children in Devon. We’ve been getting to know more about Julie, her background and her business.

Hi Julie! Let’s jump straight in with a business question, what languages will you be bringing to children in South Devon?

Salut! Lingotot South Devon will be bringing French sessions to children in our local area. There will be opportunities to learn German, Spanish and Italian too. Classes and holiday camps will be coming soon so keep an eye out!

What areas will your classes be coming to?

We will be operating mainly in the Teignbridge, Torbay and Dartmoor areas.

Tell us a little more about yourself

I currently live in a village outside Newton Abbot with my husband, youngest son, aged 16, our dog and two cats. My eldest son is studying law at university. My career for the past 28 years has been in education and most recently I have been working as Deputy Headteacher in a large Devon secondary school. Previously, I have taught primary languages during the first Primary National Strategy and trained primary school teachers to deliver the subject themselves.

Why did you decide to found your own Lingotot business?

I have been keen to rekindle my passion for languages after working as a Deputy Head, where I taught less but was responsible for behaviour, attendance and safeguarding in schools. I love being able to inspire young children and cannot wait to bring my enthusiasm for languages to the children in my local area. Having previously driven out of the area to go to work, I am very much looking forward to working with the many parents and children I know and those I’ve yet to know within my own community, in nursery, primary and community settings.

What are you most excited about?

I am thrilled to be teaching languages again in my local community. I get a real buzz working with primary-aged children and seeing them enthused by the new and exciting skills they acquire, whilst having a lot of fun in the process. I am also excited to be introducing the successful Lingotot brand to this area of the South West.

Thanks Julie! You can find out more about Lingotot South Devon here or get in touch at southdevon@lingotot.com
