Lingotot franchisee Michelle Marsland, 33, who lives in Derwentside with her husband and two young children, has been keen to share her enthusiasm for languages since leaving university.

In 2014, together with business partner and best friend, Anya Bernhoeft, she bought a Lingotot franchise, delivering accredited French and Spanish classes to children within the Newcastle and North Tyneside area. This was a great success and the duo were soon able to buy a second franchise, expanding their classes into the Gateshead and Washington area, before Anya left the business to move overseas with her family.

Though sad to lose her best friend and business partner, Michelle has remained focussed on her business plans and has since expanded again into Durham and then most recently, West Newcastle.

She says: “I love languages and feel very lucky that I am able to share my passion by delivering fun and engaging classes to over 800 children a week! I originally chose to take on a Lingotot franchise to use my languages and build a better work life balance, but I got so much more! I’ve got the work life balance, flexibility, fab head office support and a smile on my face all the time! Lingotot have supported me through my expansions again and again, and I can’t believe I now own seven territories!”

Lingotot is a multi-award winning languages program being delivered to over 10,000 children across the UK each week. Their interactive learning format aims to introduce pre-school and primary age children to languages such as French, Spanish, German, Mandarin and even English as a second a language. They deliver their classes through community groups, Sure Start centres, nursery school language classes, MFL PPA teaching in primary schools, after school language clubs, foreign language drama classes, and more! Michelle also offers LingoChat classes, teaching foreign languages to adults.

She continues: “The 2014 changes to government policy, which made modern foreign languages a compulsory part of KS2 education, have helped me grow my business because many schools aren’t set up for it and don’t have their own language teachers on site. We can provide them with the perfect solution as our accredited courses are mapped to the curriculum and are delivered by a trained team - often by native speakers or people who have lived and worked in that country.”

Michelle is confident that the business will continue to thrive and is already looking for language teachers or native French, Spanish or Polish speakers to join her team. If you are interested, please email michelle@lingotot.com for more information.

Angela Sterling, Founder of Lingotot, said: “I am absolutely delighted with Michelle! She is a wonderful ambassador for the Lingotot brand and has made some amazing progress in a short time. Her enthusiasm for languages is palpable and the children and adults she teaches really do feed off that and respond well. We wish Michelle the very best of luck with her newest territory and are keen to see what she has lined up next!”
